Welcome

Welcome to Kay's Village Recipes! Some believe the heart of the home is in the kitchen, I believe the kitchen is the heart of the village. It takes a “village” to live life to its fullest and it has nothing to do with geography or how large or small a town you live in. My “village” is inhabited by family members, dear friends, co-workers, and the occasional visitor who is in my life for a short period of time. Each one of these people has a profound impact on my emotional wellbeing as well as the quality of my life, and all have one thing in common…they all love to eat, and I love to cook for them.
On this blog you will find free, family recipes for: homemade soups, breads, apple pie, cakes, candies, snacks, casseroles, main courses, side dishes, appetizers, breakfast, home-style cooking, and so much more.

Maurice Salad

Original Recipe from:  Kay Johnson-Tomblin

One of the best things about growing up in Detroit was having lunch at J. L. Hudson’s department store.  When Mother took us to lunch we always had the Maurice Salad….in my opinion, the best salad ever!  I have no idea which one of my friends found this recipe and shared it with me, but it tastes like the real thing.  Make this salad for your next luncheon and treat your loved ones to a “taste of Detroit”.  Enjoy

Dressing Ingredients

6 Egg Yolks, cooked and mashed (from hard boiled eggs)
2 cups Hellman’s Mayonnaise
2 teaspoons Yellow Mustard
6 teaspoons Parsley Flakes
2 rounded teaspoons Sugar
1/3 cup Sugar
5 slices Bacon, cooked and crumbled

Mix together with a mixer on medium speed.  Chill dressing until ready to use.

Salad Ingredients and Directions

Iceberg Lettuce
Ham Strips
Turkey Strips
Sweet Pickles, diced (small)
Green Olives

Shred lettuce into small strips.  Toss with the Ham, Turkey and Sweet Pickles

Add the Salad Dressing just before serving and toss well.  Note:  Start with a small amount of dressing and add more until you have enough to coat the salad.

Serve on salad plates and garnish with 2-3 whole Green Olives
