Welcome
Welcome to Kay's Village Recipes! Some believe the heart of the home is in the kitchen, I believe the kitchen is the heart of the village. It takes a “village” to live life to its fullest and it has nothing to do with geography or how large or small a town you live in. My “village” is inhabited by family members, dear friends, co-workers, and the occasional visitor who is in my life for a short period of time. Each one of these people has a profound impact on my emotional wellbeing as well as the quality of my life, and all have one thing in common…they all love to eat, and I love to cook for them.
On this blog you will find free, family recipes for: homemade soups, breads, apple pie, cakes, candies, snacks, casseroles, main courses, side dishes, appetizers, breakfast, home-style cooking, and so much more.

Cranberry Salad
Original Recipe from: Lucy Griffin-Bowers
This is a recipe from my grandmother’s collection. Side dishes were her specialty. When she would stay at our house for visits, we all had a hand in putting dinner on the table. Mother would make the main dish, Grandma would make the side dish, and I would make the dessert. We were such a good team. Get some family members, or friends, and make your own team. The time spent working in the kitchen together will be a real bonding experience! Enjoy!
Ingredients
1/2 pound Cranberries
1/2 cup nuts (Grandma always used Walnuts)
1 cup Sugar
1 package Lemon Jell-O
1/2 Orange
1/2 cup Apples
1 can (#2) crushed Pineapple
Directions
Grind: Orange, Cranberries, Apples, and Nuts together. Note: I use a food processor for this step, but they didn’t have those back in my Grandmother’s day. Chop up the ingredients in the food processor until they are small chunks; be careful that you don’t make a “mush” out of them though.
Dissolve Jell-O in 1/2 cup boiling water.
Boil 1 cup Sugar in about ½ cup water, and then add to the Jell-O.
Let cool until it begins to thicken, then add the rest of the ingredients and chill before serving.
